Here we are back at the turning of the year and new goals to be set. Two years ago I set a goal of 100 books to read for the year and found myself rushing to meet the goal which was not enjoyable. So 2018 I set the goal of only 10 books which I exceeded in January if I recall correctly and the rest of the year I read what I wanted at the speed I wanted. No panic to “win”. No anxiety to “fail”. Just read. It was fantastic and oddly enough I am closing in on the end of the year and on my 97th book. So, I still read almost 100 but without the stress of an impending score card.
With that thought out and tossed around I’ve decided my reading goals for 2019 will be:
- 10 Total Books
- Forcing myself to be more discriminating on the free ebooks I download and possibly limiting myself to reading three ebooks to every one I download to make an attempt at cutting down my Kindle unread library.
- Focusing on getting on with or DNF some of the series I have been reading but set aside.
- Continue avoiding the genres I know do not interest me or keep my attention, no peer pressure from the book world to read what they think is relevant or necessary. Focus will be on Science Fiction, Fantasy, Graphic Novel/Comics, Fiction, Romance, Some Young Adult, Historic Research, and Classics. Avoiding Non-Fiction, Poetry, Erotica and Middle Grade. I won’t mind a random Horror, Mystery or Crime novel if it’s done well.
That about covers it.
Happy 2019 Reading!
I love the idea of making yourself reading goals! I think I’ll do that too for this year!
Cool, link me if you do a blog for it. I’ll be interested what your goals are. I just have a lot of reading time while living abroad so I have to reign it in and focus some haha.
DIANE, IT’S GODMOTHER HERE. I TOO WILL TRY TO READ AT LEAST EIGHT BOOKS IN 2019. THE OUTLANDERS WILL BE MY PRIMARY SERIES, SINCE I AM WATCHING THE MOVIE VERSION ON TV. HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YOU ALL. DID YOU RECEIVE MY CARD?
PRAY THAT YOU HAVE A HAPPY, PROSPEROUS AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR.
Hello Pat, I have the first Outlander book but haven’t read it yet. I did receive your card, thank you so much and for the thoughtful note and coffee $ included! Happy New Year to you too. 🙂
