Newest blood work is back from the lab, I’m not unhappy with the results.
A1C – which is the average of the last few months of blood glucose control came in at 6.1 which is really very good. From WebMD: “For people without diabetes, the normal range for the hemoglobin A1c test is between 4% and 5.6%. Hemoglobin A1c levels between 5.7% and 6.4% indicate increased risk of diabetes, and levels of 6.5% or higher indicate diabetes.” I’m hoping my next test will have me below 6.0.
Cholesterol – The Dr. said my Triglycerides are a bit high but what he wants to work most on is the LDL. My count was about 150. From WebMD:
LDL Cholesterol | LDL-Cholesterol Category |
Less than 100 | Optimal |
100 – 129 | Near optimal/above optimal |
130 – 159 | Borderline high |
160 – 189 | High |
190 and above | Very high |
So, he added a medication to help with the cholesterol and one to help a bit with hypertension because at the last visit my blood pressure was a bit high and he said the medication for the bp also helps kidney function which can be a problem for diabetics, so it’s a win win if I don’t have any side effects.
I’m going back for more lab work in a few weeks so he can check my liver function, one of the new pills can have a bad effect on the liver in some cases. 😦
You had mentioned health problems before but I had no idea it was diabetes. So sorry to hear it. My husband is borderline but under control. I hope your condition continues to improve!
Thank you Eda, Honestly since moving to Japan I haven’t felt this good in years. The healthier food and amount of walking is doing wonders for me. =)
Wonderful!
